Brighton Rock

Set in the dark underworld of the English seaside town of Brighton, a gang war is raging. The story centers on Pinkie Brown, a malign and ruthless seventeen-year-old gangster who has murdered a man named Fred Hale, a reporter for a London newspaper. Believing he can easily escape retribution, Pinkie is unprepared for the tenacious, life-embracing Ida Arnold, a woman who befriended Hale and becomes determined to avenge his death and expose Pinkie's crime. To silence a potential witness, the innocent young waitress Rose, Pinkie marries her, complicating the moral and theological dimensions of this gripping thriller which exposes a world of loneliness, fear, and life lived on the 'dangerous edge of things'.
