The Boy who Followed Ripley

Tom Ripley is living a quiet, seemingly idyllic life on his French estate when he is sought out by Frank Pierson, a wealthy, 16-year-old American runaway. Frank confesses that he pushed his father's wheelchair over a cliff and sought out Ripley due to his notoriously amoral past, hoping for a kindred spirit and refuge. Ripley, recognizing a vulnerability and a moral ambiguity that mirrors his own, takes the boy under his wing. Their complex relationship as mentor and conspirator is shattered when they travel to West Berlin and Frank is suddenly kidnapped. Ripley is then drawn into the city's dark underworld, where he must become the boy's protector, orchestrating a shocking and violent confrontation to secure his rescue.
