Margret Rey

Margret Rey was a German-born American writer and illustrator, best known for the Curious George series of children's picture books that she and her husband H. A. Rey created. She later collaborated with Alan J. Shalleck on additional Curious George books and animated shorts. Rey studied art and worked in advertising before fleeing Nazi Germany. She and her husband escaped occupied Paris on bicycles during WWII, carrying the manuscript for Curious George with them. After settling in the US, their books became highly successful. Rey established the Curious George Foundation to help creative children and prevent cruelty to animals.
