China Miéville (born 6 September 1972) is a British novelist, critic and academic known for works of 'new weird' speculative fiction that blend fantasy, science fiction and political themes. His notable novels include Perdido Street Station, The Scar, Iron Council, The City & the City and Embassytown. He has won multiple major genre awards and also writes non‑fiction on politics and history.
