A homeless, alcoholic man known as Billy Blake is found dead from starvation in the private garage of wealthy socialite Amanda Powell in a ritzy London neighborhood. The police consider it an unfortunate accident, but journalist Michael Deacon is intrigued by the bizarre circumstances—the man died next to a freezer full of food. Amanda Powell, whose wealthy husband mysteriously vanished five years earlier following embezzlement accusations, also takes an unusual interest, even paying for the dead man's cremation.
