Shelter A Novel

Kyung Cho is a young father and tenure-track professor who is anxious about his family's future, as he and his wife, Gillian, are burdened by a house they can't afford and accumulating debt. A few miles away, his wealthy parents, Jin and Mae, live in the town's most exclusive neighborhood. Growing up, Kyung was given every material advantage but never shown kindness or affection. He can barely stand to see them, let alone ask for their help. However, an act of violence leaves his parents unable to live on their own, and Kyung is compelled to take them in. For the first time in years, the Cho family is living under the same roof. Tensions quickly mount as Kyung’s proximity to his parents forces old feelings of guilt and anger to the surface, causing him to grapple with the persistent question of how he can be a good husband, father, and son when he never knew parental love as a child.
