Sorry to Disrupt the Peace

Helen Moran, a thirty-two-year-old, single, childless, college-educated woman in New York, who is partially employed as a guardian of troubled young people, is accepting an IKEA delivery when her uncle calls with the news: her adoptive brother is dead by suicide. According to the internet, there are six possible reasons why her brother might have killed himself, but Helen believes this is only shorthand for 'the abyss.' Believing she alone is qualified to launch a serious investigation into his death, Helen purchases a one-way ticket to Milwaukee. There, as she searches her childhood home and attempts to uncover why someone would choose to die, she will confront her estranged family, her brother's few friends, and the overzealous grief counselor, Chad Lambo, in a quest that may lead her to discover what it truly means to be alive. The novel is a bleakly comic tour de force that is by turns poignant, uproariously funny, and viscerally unsettling, announcing the singular voice of the author.
