Running with the Demon

Running with the Demon is the first book in The Word and the Void trilogy, setting a conflict between good (the Word) and evil (the Void) in the "real world." The story is set in Hopewell, Illinois, during a hot Fourth of July weekend. A Knight of the Word named John Ross arrives in the steel-mill town, plagued by nightmares that warn him of an ancient evil about to be unleashed. He tracks a demon, a dark servant of the Void, who intends to use the community's anger to achieve a terrible secret goal. The ultimate battle is poised to begin in Sinnissippi Park, with the fate of humanity resting on a fourteen-year-old girl named Nest Freemark, who has budding powers she does not yet fully understand.
