The Wishsong of Shannara

Horror has descended upon the Four Lands as the Ildatch, an ancient tome of dark magic, stirs to life, dispatching its foul Mord Wraiths to annihilate humankind. The Druid Allanon, the protector of the Races, must once again turn to a descendant of Jerle Shannara for help. He seeks out Brin Ohmsford, the daughter of Wil Ohmsford, who possesses the inherited magic known as the Wishsong, which is the only power capable of destroying the Ildatch. Brin reluctantly joins Allanon and her protector, Rone Leah, on a perilous quest eastward to enter the deadly Maelmord and confront the source of the evil. Meanwhile, Brin's younger brother, Jair, who has a weaker, illusion-based manifestation of the Wishsong, is left behind but learns through a vision that his sister will fail and die unless he can reach her in time, prompting him to embark on a desperate, parallel journey.
