Captain's Blood

Following the explosive events of *Star Trek: Nemesis*, the Romulan Star Empire is in disarray, and Ambassador Spock attempts to unify the Romulans with their distant forebears, the Vulcans. When Spock is publicly assassinated at a Romulan peace rally, Starfleet and the Federation are unable to investigate without triggering a new war. The task falls to the now-retired James T. Kirk, who, with clandestine assistance from Captain Will Riker of the Starship *Titan* and the company of Jean-Luc Picard, travels to Romulus as a civilian. Accompanied by his five-year-old son, Joseph, Doctor Leonard McCoy, and Montgomery Scott, Kirk’s investigation leads him to Romulus' sister world, Remus, where he encounters an alluring enemy from his past. Kirk and Picard discover that Spock's apparent murder hides a deeper, galaxy-reaching mystery. Trapped on a deadly alien world on the eve of a Romulan civil war, Kirk uncovers a staggering conspiracy and is forced into the heartrending realization that to achieve peace, he must sacrifice the freedom of his son, whose very blood holds the secret to his startling destiny.
