Investigator Jake Cardigan, still grappling with the murder of the woman he loved, is drawn back into action when he is hired to investigate the disappearance of Alicia Bower, the beautiful heiress daughter of the world's wealthiest robotics industrialist. Her family is unconcerned, believing it is just another impetuous departure. However, her current boyfriend suspects she is in danger and turns to Cardigan for help. Persuaded by his son Dan and trusted sidekick Sid Gomez, Jake takes the case, and attempts on his own life quickly convince him that something deadly is afoot. His search ultimately leads him to the Mentor Psych Center, where Alicia has been brainwashed to prevent her from revealing a murderous assassination plot involving her father's robots.
