The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making (Fairyland, 1)

Twelve-year-old September lives an ordinary life in Omaha, Nebraska, until the day she is visited by the Green Wind and a Leopard of Little Luck, who invite her to Fairyland. Upon her arrival, she discovers a realm in transition and turmoil, ruled by a tyrannical new Marquess who has replaced the old Queen. To save Fairyland and its inhabitants, September must venture into the Enchanted Forest to retrieve a magical talisman. Along her whimsical and often dangerous journey, she befriends a book-loving Wyvern (or 'Wyverary') named A-Through-L and a mysterious Marid boy named Saturday. September must rely on her own courage and wit to navigate the strange rules of Fairyland, confront the Marquess, and decide what kind of hero she truly wants to be.
