Catherynne M. Valente (born May 5, 1979) is an American poet, novelist and literary critic best known for richly lyrical speculative fiction and award-winning works including The Orphan's Tales, the Fairyland series, Palimpsest, Deathless and Space Opera. Her work spans adult and young‑adult fiction, short stories, poems and criticism. She has won numerous genre awards including the James Tiptree Jr. Award, Andre Norton Award, Mythopoeic Award and multiple Locus and Rhysling awards. Valente lives on an island off the coast of Maine.
