Louis Sachar
Louis Sachar (born March 20, 1954) is an American author best known for his children's and middle-grade books, including the Wayside School series and the novel Holes. His work is noted for its humor, inventive premises, and empathetic portrayals of young characters. Holes won the 1998 U.S. National Book Award for Young People's Literature and the 1999 Newbery Medal and was adapted as a feature film in 2003. Sachar began writing after working as a teacher's aide and initially practiced law while continuing to publish children's fiction before focusing full-time on writing.
