Theodor Seuss Geisel, known to the world as Dr. Seuss, was an American children's author, illustrator, animator, and cartoonist. He is celebrated for his whimsical children's books, characterized by playful rhymes, nonsense words, and imaginative creatures. His work includes many of the most popular children's books of all time, selling over 600 million copies and being translated into more than 20 languages. He began his career as an illustrator and cartoonist for various publications before publishing his first children's book, 'And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street,' in 1937. During World War II, he illustrated political cartoons and worked in the U.S. Army's animation department. After the war, he returned to writing children's books, creating acclaimed works such as 'The Cat in the Hat,' 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas!,' and 'Green Eggs and Ham.' His contributions to children's literature earned him numerous awards, including a Pulitzer Prize Special Citation in 1984.
