Lois Lowry (born Lois Ann Hammersberg) is an American author of more than 40 books for children and young adults. She is best known for The Giver and Number the Stars, and has received two Newbery Medals. Her work ranges from historical fiction to dystopian and contemporary stories that explore memory, identity, and moral complexity.
