Meyer Reinhold

Meyer Reinhold (September 1, 1909 – July 1, 2002) was an American classical scholar and historian of the ancient Mediterranean. He published widely on Roman history and the classical tradition, wrote on Jewish life in the Greco-Roman world, and was author or editor of numerous anthologies and reference works used in teaching classics in translation. His career included faculty appointments at Brooklyn College, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, the University of Missouri (Byler Distinguished Professor of Classical Studies), and visiting positions at Boston University and Vanderbilt University. Reinhold's early career was interrupted during the McCarthy era; he later resumed a productive scholarly career and was nominated for a Presidential Medal in the Humanities in 1998.
