Erich Maria Remarque (born Erich Paul Remark) was a German novelist best known for his 1929 anti-war novel All Quiet on the Western Front. His work draws on his experiences as a German soldier in World War I and often explores the physical and psychological traumas of war, the alienation of veterans, and the costs of nationalism. Remarque's novels, including The Road Back, Three Comrades, and Arch of Triumph, became internationally influential and widely translated.
