Colin Henry Wilson (26 June 1931 – 5 December 2013) was an English writer and philosopher who rose to fame with his 1956 book The Outsider. Self-educated after leaving school at 16, he wrote prolifically across fiction and non-fiction for more than five decades on topics including existentialism (which he called "new existentialism"), the occult, true crime, mysticism and science fiction. His best-known works include The Outsider and The Occult: A History; he published well over one hundred books and maintained a large personal library in Cornwall.
