Margaret Laurence

Margaret Laurence was a Canadian novelist and short story writer, considered one of the major figures in Canadian literature. Her work often explores themes of identity, struggles against oppression, and the complexities of communication, frequently set in the fictional town of Manawaka. She was also a founder of the Writers' Trust of Canada and a strong feminist voice. Her novels portray strong women striving for self-realization in challenging circumstances. She died by suicide in 1987 after being diagnosed with lung cancer.
