Margaret Laurence was a Canadian novelist and short story writer, considered one of the major figures in Canadian literature. Her work often explores themes of identity, social justice, and the struggles of women in a male-dominated world. Many of her novels are set in the fictional town of Manawaka, inspired by her hometown of Neepawa, Manitoba. She was also a founder of the Writers' Trust of Canada and a strong advocate for peace and women's rights.
