William Robertson Davies was a Canadian novelist, playwright, critic, journalist, and professor, known for his penetrating observations on Canadian provincialism and prudery. He is celebrated for his series of trilogies, including the Deptford Trilogy, the Salterton Trilogy, and the Cornish Trilogy. His work often reflects his engagement with psychological theories, particularly those of Carl Jung. Davies was also the founding Master of Massey College at the University of Toronto and played a crucial role in the development of Canadian theater, contributing to the Stratford Shakespeare Festival.
