Anne of Green Gables

Elderly siblings Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, who own the farm Green Gables in the quiet town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island, decide to adopt an orphan boy to help Matthew with the farm work. Due to a misunderstanding, they are mistakenly sent an 11-year-old, imaginative, and talkative girl named Anne Shirley. Although Marilla is initially determined to send the feisty, redheaded girl back, Anne's vivid imagination, optimistic spirit, and bright-eyed love quickly win over both the shy Matthew and the stern Marilla. The story follows Anne's coming-of-age journey, detailing her adventures, her academic pursuits, her intense friendship with Diana Barry, and her long-standing, competitive, but eventually cordial rivalry with classmate Gilbert Blythe, as she finally finds a true home and family at Green Gables.
