Changeling (1) (Order of Darkness)

In the year 1453, a time when many believe the world is ending, seventeen-year-old Luca Vero is accused of heresy and expelled from his monastery for using the new science to question old superstitious beliefs. He is subsequently recruited into a secret sect commissioned by Pope Nicholas V called The Order of the Dragon, whose mission is to investigate and record strange occurrences and the spread of evil across Europe. Luca is sent to a remote nunnery to investigate Lady Abbess Isolde, also seventeen, who is trapped there to prevent her from claiming a rich inheritance and who is now accused of witchcraft after the nuns in her care are driven mad by strange visions. Luca is initially sent to accuse her but is compelled to plot her escape. Forced to confront the greatest fears of the medieval world—including witchcraft, werewolves, and madness—Luca and Isolde, with their companions Freize and Ishraq, travel across Europe, searching for truth, their own destinies, and love, all while heading toward a real-life historical figure who holds the boundaries of Christendom and the secrets of the Order of Darkness.
