Hellhole (Hell Hole Trilogy)
Brian Herbert, Kevin J. Anderson
The planet known as Hellhole (or Hallholme) is a devastated, storm-wracked frontier world that serves as a dumping ground for exiles and undesirables from the Constellation. It is one of 54 remote Deep Zone worlds forced to pay tribute to the tyrannical and corrupt Constellation, which is ruled by decadent nobles and led by Diadem Michella Duchenet. Exiled rebel General Tiber Adolphus, a defeated opponent of the Constellation, makes his home on Hellhole and secretly works to undermine the Constellation's power structure. He forms a clandestine coalition of Deep Zone planets to mount a second, larger rebellion against the central government. The colonists, a mix of dreamers and desperate pioneers, work to build a life on the volatile planet. Unknown to most, Hellhole hides an amazing secret deep beneath its surface: the remnants of an obliterated alien civilization—the Xayans—whose buried memories and resurrection could threaten not only the human rebellion but the foundations of the galaxy itself.
