On Halloween night, an unemployed Alex Bellamy finds himself dressed as Kermit the Frog and contemplating his life's direction. Nearby, a man named Zachary Ternoway is stabbed at his front door. In need of cash, Alex agrees to take a temporary job as a systems analyst at McKinleys' Department Store to catch a computer prankster. The situation quickly escalates when someone vows to permanently encrypt all of the store's data and torch the building unless a ten million dollar ransom is paid. Alex is convinced there is a connection between Ternoway's murder and the extortion threat, but as he races against time, his own competency is questioned and a killer's threat to his life becomes very real.
