Peter Robinson (17 March 1950 – 4 October 2022) was a British‑born Canadian crime novelist best known for the Inspector Alan Banks series set in the fictional Yorkshire town of Eastvale. Born in Armley, Leeds, he emigrated to Canada in the 1970s to continue his studies and earned an MA in English and Creative Writing from the University of Windsor and a PhD in English from York University. Over a writing career spanning more than three decades he published more than two dozen Banks novels, several stand‑alone novels and short story collections; his work won multiple national and international awards and has been translated into many languages. He lived in Toronto and maintained strong ties to Yorkshire throughout his life.
