He studied law and philosophy at the University of Birmingham and worked as an advertising copywriter before becoming a full-time writer in 1989. His novels often explore themes of international politics, anti-Semitism, and societal disparities, blending historical realism with intricate plots. Kerr received numerous awards for his work, including the RBA Prize for Crime Writing and the Ellis Peters Historic Crime Award.
