Alistair Stuart MacLean was a prolific Scottish novelist known for his gripping thrillers and adventure stories, many of which were set against the backdrop of World War II or international espionage. A former Royal Navy sailor, his wartime experiences heavily influenced his writing, particularly his debut bestseller, H.M.S. Ulysses. He was one of the best-selling authors of the 20th century, with many of his works adapted into successful films.
