William Trevor (born William Trevor Cox) was a renowned Irish novelist, playwright, and short story writer. Widely regarded as one of the greatest contemporary masters of the short story in the English language, his work often explored themes of isolation, communication failures, and the complexities of human relationships, frequently set against the backdrop of small-town Ireland or England. He was born in Mitchelstown, County Cork, in 1928, and after a career as a sculptor and teacher, he moved to England in the 1950s, where he lived for the rest of his life while maintaining a strong connection to his Irish roots.
