Jesmyn Ward is an acclaimed American novelist, memoirist, and professor of creative writing at Tulane University. She is the first woman and first Black American to win the National Book Award for Fiction twice, for her novels 'Salvage the Bones' (2011) and 'Sing, Unburied, Sing' (2017). Her work, often set in the Gulf Coast region of Mississippi, explores themes of community, familial love, grief, and the enduring impact of systemic racism and poverty.
