Andrey Kurkov
Andrey Kurkov is a prominent Ukrainian novelist, journalist, and screenwriter, born in 1961 near Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) and raised in Kyiv. Known for his dark humor, surrealism, and satirical depictions of post-Soviet reality, he is the author of numerous novels, including the internationally bestselling 'Death and the Penguin'. A vocal critic of authoritarianism and a supporter of Ukrainian independence, he has served as the president of PEN Ukraine and is a respected commentator on Ukrainian affairs for international media.
