Muhammad Yunus (born 1940) is a Bangladeshi economist, social entrepreneur and founder of Grameen Bank, widely credited with pioneering microcredit and microfinance to alleviate poverty. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for his efforts to create economic and social development from below and has authored several books on social business and poverty alleviation.
