Bessel A. van der Kolk, M.D., is a Dutch-born psychiatrist, researcher and educator based in Boston. He has spent decades researching post-traumatic stress and traumatic memory, founded the Trauma Center in Brookline, Massachusetts, and has held academic positions including professor of psychiatry at Boston University School of Medicine. He is best known for the bestselling book The Body Keeps the Score, which brought wide public attention to body-centered approaches to treating trauma.
