Elizabeth Cleghorn Gaskell

Elizabeth Cleghorn Gaskell (1810–1865) was a British novelist, biographer and short-story writer of the Victorian era, known for social novels that examined class, industrialisation and gender, including Mary Barton, Cranford, North and South and Wives and Daughters. She also wrote a highly regarded biography of Charlotte Brontë.
