Erich von Däniken (born 14 April 1935) is a Swiss author best known for popularizing the ancient-astronaut hypothesis in his 1968 bestseller Chariots of the Gods? His books argue that extraterrestrial visitors influenced early human cultures and technologies; his ideas are widely rejected by mainstream scientists as pseudoscience. Von Däniken has written dozens of books, lectured internationally, and helped found the Archaeology, Astronautics and SETI Research Association.
