Watty Piper is the pen name used by Arnold Munk (1888–1957) and other contributors associated with the Platt & Munk publishing house. The name is best known as the credited author of the children’s classic The Little Engine That Could (popularized in a 1930 Platt & Munk edition). Arnold Munk was born in Hungary, emigrated to the United States as a child, and later became co-owner of Platt & Munk; he served as editor and as a credited author under the Watty Piper pseudonym.
