Pen name of Dora Amy Turnbull (née Elles). Patricia Wentworth (1877–1961) was a British writer best known for a long series of classic whodunit novels featuring Miss Maud Silver, a retired governess turned professional private detective. She published dozens of novels and short stories from the early 20th century through 1961 and won the Melrose prize in 1910 for her first novel, A Marriage Under the Terror.
