James Preston Girard

James Preston Girard (born 1944) is an American novelist and short-story writer best known for crime and suspense fiction set in Kansas and the American Midwest. His novels include The Late Man (1993) and Some Survive (2002); he has also published stories and edited regional collections. Girard studied at the University of Kansas and completed graduate work in the Johns Hopkins writing program. Much of his fiction explores psychological depth within crime narratives and small-town settings.
