H. A. Rey
H. A. Rey (born Hans Augusto Reyersbach) was a German-born American illustrator and author best known, with his wife Margret Rey, for creating the Curious George picture books. Born in Hamburg, he worked in Brazil and later moved to Paris, where he and Margret created the Curious George character. The couple fled Paris in 1940 carrying the manuscript for the first Curious George book; the series was first published in New York in 1941 and became a long-running success. Rey primarily illustrated the books while Margret contributed many of the stories. He lived in Cambridge, Massachusetts, from 1963 until his death in 1977.
