We Need to Talk About Kevin tie-in A Novel

Eva Khatchadourian never really wanted to be a mother—and certainly not the mother of a boy who murdered seven of his fellow high school students, a cafeteria worker, and a much-adored teacher two days before his sixteenth birthday. The novel, an epistolary story, is told through a series of startlingly direct letters Eva writes to her estranged husband, Franklin, two years after Kevin's horrific rampage. Eva recounts the events of their family life, her own deep-seated ambivalence toward motherhood, and her unsettling quest to understand her teenage son's deadly violence. Uneasy with the sacrifices of motherhood, Eva fears that her alarming dislike for her own son may be responsible for driving him off the rails, creating a piercing examination of violence, family ties, and responsibility.
