New Moon (The Twilight Saga)

After a disastrous eighteenth birthday party where Bella Swan almost falls victim to an accidental attack, Edward Cullen and his family leave Forks, Washington, in an effort to keep Bella safe. Edward believes that his departure will give Bella a normal human life, but she falls into a deep, prolonged depression. Bella finds a much-needed distraction in her rekindled and intense friendship with Jacob Black, a member of the Quileute tribe, who helps her feel like herself again. As she spends more time with Jacob, she discovers a secret: he and others in his tribe are werewolves. Bella starts taking reckless risks, seeking dangerous thrills in a desperate attempt to hear Edward's voice. A tragic misunderstanding leads Edward to believe that Bella has died, prompting him to travel to Volterra, Italy, to provoke the Volturi—the vampire world's royal guard—into ending his life. Bella and Alice Cullen, Edward's sister, race to Italy to stop him before it's too late.
