Amity & Sorrow A Novel

The novel follows Amaranth and her two teenage daughters, Amity and Sorrow, as they flee a polygamous cult founded by Amaranth's husband, who has decided it is the end of days. Desperate to escape her husband's pursuit, Amaranth drives for days without rest until she crashes their car in the Oklahoma panhandle. Rescue comes in the form of Bradley, a grieving farmer, who reluctantly takes in the strange, prayerful trio. The girls, who have never known a world outside their father's compound, have contrasting reactions to their new freedom: Amity begins to thrive and discover a new self-reliance, while Sorrow, who believes herself to be the sect's oracle, desperately wishes to return to her Father. The story explores themes of faith, redemption, family, and the influence of community as the women attempt to build a new life with Bradley and his aged father.
