Foucault's Pendulum
Three bored Milanese editors—Casaubon, Belbo, and Diotallevi—work for a vanity publishing house that receives a constant stream of manuscripts detailing outlandish conspiracy theories and occult secrets. For their own amusement, they decide to invent a sprawling, purely fictional conspiracy they call 'The Plan.' Randomly feeding esoteric knowledge, from the Knights Templar and Rosicrucianism to alchemy and the Kabbalah, into a computer, they synthesize a grand unified theory of history. Their fabricated 'Plan' suggests a secret, centuries-old map for world domination, pointing to a single geographical location: Foucault's Pendulum in Paris. What begins as an intellectual joke and a harmless literary prank for the editors' entertainment becomes terrifyingly real when genuine occult societies and Diabolicals intercept the Plan and take it seriously, plunging the three men into a dangerous world of secret rituals, deadly quests, and the blurred line between fantasy and reality.
