Faith of the Fallen

Following an attack that leaves his beloved Kahlan Amnell near death, Richard Rahl is shaken and isolates himself, refusing to lead the D'Haran Empire and believing they cannot defeat Emperor Jagang until the people themselves desire to fight for freedom. This installment of the Sword of Truth series pits Richard and Kahlan against threats to the world's freedom that take them to opposite ends of the world. Nicci, a Sister of the Dark, forces Richard to accompany her into the Old World by placing a rare 'maternity spell' on Kahlan, which links Kahlan's life to Nicci's safety. Separated and tested to the utmost, Richard is compelled to live as a common laborer in the Old World capital of Altur'Rang, while Kahlan ignores ancient prophecy to raise an army and confront the Imperial Order's advance into the New World. Richard's relentless dedication to hard work and his independent spirit, despite the oppressive conditions, begins to make Nicci question the very goals of the Imperial Order.
