This prequel to *Legends & Lattes* follows a younger, more headstrong orc mercenary named Viv. After being wounded during the hunt for a powerful necromancer, her career with the notorious mercenary company Rackam's Ravens is temporarily halted, and she is sent against her will to the sleepy beach town of Murk to recuperate. Sidelined and bored, she unexpectedly finds herself spending her hours at a struggling bookshop in the company of its foul-mouthed proprietor. This unexpected interlude proves to be both exactly what she needs and the seed of changes she couldn't possibly imagine. Still, adventure isn't all that far away. A suspicious traveler in gray, a gnome with a chip on her shoulder, a summer fling, and an improbable number of skeletons prove Murk to be more eventful than Viv could have ever expected. The story is a cozy fantasy about the power of good bookshops, great friends, and how the seeds planted earlier in life, even through failures, can be foundational for the person one ultimately becomes.
