Serpent

Serpent, the first book in the NUMA Files series, introduces Kurt Austin, leader of the National Underwater and Marine Agency (NUMA) special exploration team. The story begins with a historical prologue detailing the 1956 sinking of the Italian luxury liner, the *Andrea Doria*, off the coast of Nantucket, which secretly holds a priceless pre-Columbian antiquity. In the present day, Kurt Austin rescues marine archaeologist Nina Kirov off the coast of Morocco after her team is attacked for discovering a carved stone head that suggests Europeans discovered America before Christopher Columbus. Their investigation uncovers a vast conspiracy orchestrated by a powerful Texas industrialist named Halcon and a shadowy organization called "The Brotherhood," which has been attempting for centuries to hide all evidence of pre-Columbian contact between the New and Old Worlds. Halcon's insidious scheme is to use the artifact hidden within the *Andrea Doria*'s silent steel hull to carve a new nation out of the southwestern United States and Mexico.
