Mr. Peabody's Apples

Set in 1949 in Happville, USA, the story follows Mr. Peabody, a beloved elementary school history teacher and baseball coach. The book details how a student named Tommy Tittlebottom sees Mr. Peabody take a shiny apple from Mr. Funkadeli's fruit market without paying and concludes that his coach is a thief. Tommy spreads this rumor, which quickly gossips through the small town, causing the whole community to ostracize Mr. Peabody. Mr. Peabody, who is actually paying for the apple every Saturday morning, confronts the gossip with an unforgettable and poignant lesson about the power of words and how to choose them carefully to avoid causing harm, an act that often involves cutting open a pillow and scattering its feathers.
