Left Neglected

Sarah Nickerson is a career-driven, over-scheduled young mother and executive in an affluent Boston suburb, constantly juggling her demanding job and three children. One morning, while distracted by her cell phone during her commute, she gets into a devastating car accident that results in a traumatic brain injury and a diagnosis of 'left neglect,' a neurological disorder that steals her awareness of everything on her left side. As Sarah struggles to retrain her mind to perceive the world as a whole and regain her independence—even for simple tasks like flossing—she is forced to slow down and reassess her life. The illness, which has a double meaning in the book's title, forces her to recognize the parts of her life she had previously neglected, ultimately leading her to find a new appreciation for the people and things that truly matter most.
