Babylon Berlin

Set in Berlin in 1929, the novel introduces Detective Inspector Gereon Rath, who has been transferred from Cologne to the Berlin Vice Squad following a shooting incident. The city is a vibrating metropolis, teetering between post-war decadence and the political unrest preceding the rise of Nazism. When a mutilated corpse is discovered in the Landwehr Canal, Rath seizes the opportunity to get back into the Homicide Division by claiming the case. His investigation quickly pulls him into the dark morass of Weimar Berlin's 'Roaring Twenties,' leading him through a world of drugs, prostitution, gunrunning, and shady politics, where he uncovers a plot involving exiled Russians, smuggled gold, and a battle against organized criminals and paramilitaries.
