Sydney has always felt invisible, overshadowed by her charismatic older brother, Peyton. When Peyton's reckless behavior culminates in a drunk-driving accident that cripples a boy and sends him to jail, Sydney is cast adrift, feeling rootless and worried that her parents are only concerned about Peyton, not the victim. Searching for her place, she transfers to a new school and is drawn into the warm, chaotic circle of the Chatham family, who run a pizza parlor.
